literature analysis #3

opics and or Events: 1) Every Second Counts is about the remarkable story of Lance's Armstrong comeback from testicular cancer and how he fights the odds and wins the Tour De France 5 consecative times. It captures the mindset of a man who has to make time for his family as well his love for biking. But along this perilous journey he talks about his experience with cancer which ironically taught him to live life day by day. 2) Lance wrote this book to let everyone know how his life was during cancer and how precious time is. he wanted to let the whole world understand that he is just an ordinary man like everyone else, he explicitly stated over and over again that if he can survive cancer so can you. 3) I chose this book because I myself am an athlete and thought it would be easy to read about a biography of an athlete. From the front cover of Lance Armstrongs exstatic smile I could already relate and conncet to the book. Once I started reading I was hooked. He quickly talks about his first encounter of finding out he had cancer, from that point on I knew I would like this book. " now that I know im going to die, what will I do?" this quote from the book is a perfect example on how realistic and logical this book is. 4) This question made me laugh. Yes this book is as real as it gets and some! Cancer, bike riding, family, how much more real can it get? His thoughts and feelings towards cancer really inspired me to do my best in life. Appreciate what I have today because in fact it could all be gone or change tomorrow. I connected to lance in a life threatening sickness and athletic point of view. People: 1) Lance talks a lot about his family; wife named kik, son luke, and twin daughters. There are so many people mentioned in this book that it would to much to list them all but the ones he talks about most and sincerly is his family. He describes hiw wife as supportive and strong minded. he has very good communication with her but never mention any fights. I'm sure they do fight but why would he want to but that in a book as inspiring as this? I bet if I met his family in person it would be the typical kids playing and couple arguing about something situation. but after reading the book and understanding how Lance Embraces life I came to a conclusion, the way he describes his family is the way they actuall act. Man had life threatening cancer for petes sake! His life is in no way normal. 2) His cancer friend Sally reed is a cancer survivor patient who clocked in over a thousand volunteer hours devoted to helping cancer patients. Down side is lance is not very good at physically describing people so I can not do the honor of giving you a full description of a certain person. He more describes ones personality and action which is fine, you dont judge a book by the cover. His wife kik, very beautiful slender women with green eyes. She has blonde hair is a very strong hearted women says armstrong. She helped hi, get through cancer. Luke lance's son is a almsot split image of himself. Though lance did not really describe how his son looked his described his sons ambition and love for biking " He fell off his bike face first and after some bruises, cuts, and crying he got right back on it, Just like his daddy". I can tell from how he talks about his sone he is very proud and happy to have one. He gets deep pleasure and satisfaction to know he has a prodigy of his own. 3) Well the fact that Lance Armstong himself talks about them a lot says it all. With all the people he sees, cancer patients, public, press, cycylist; he seems to talk about these the most. These individuals mean the most to him in his precious life. They deserve to be talked about. Style 1) The author used a more journalist/biography approach with hints on the symbolism of life terms. For example, " What I didnt and couldnt address at the time was the prospect of life.". 2) Lance loves to use lenghty descriptions of everything. Forexample in the beggining of the book I loved how he described the giant waterfall he goes to jump in just to clear his mind. " Its a drop so long.... Long enough to think first one thing, A Little fear is good for you." .This quote really captured the use and the meaning the water fall has to him. Most books will describe the water fall magnificent or even try to glorify it cliche. lance describes it for what it is and what its made to be used for and that is clear your mind from all the obstacles life gives you. 3) The author uses his own thoughts to set a certain tone in parts of the story. 4) I believe Lance had very different perspectives towards cancer. Its a diease that could of killed him but having survived it gave him new motive to do better and work harder in life, " My house is burned, but I can see the sky." Its very ironic how he is in some way happy the thing that was going to kill him saved him? MAde him appreciate the little things in life and with nothing to lose and everything to gain lance is just a dangerous man to be around. Its the reason why he is so optimistic, postive and happy in to be alive. 5) Author didnt really offer any articles excpet what you can hear from the Tour De France skeptics. But if you take a close look into the book he talks about articles accusing him of doping up, doubt he wants to prmotoe those articles

Paper cut

Oh my gosh. This paper was the most stressful thing to complete. So much of my time and effort was thrown into this paper the first time it was assigned to the class. I busted it out and honestly I think its unfair that the people who came to class with it the first time didn't get extra credit. A lot of people just blew it off and because of that we wasted time trying to get the slackers caught up. I edited it And changed it up a little bit and I feel good about myself and I'm proud of my final product.
